The Anchormen continued swinging white-hot sticks Tuesday night under the Snowden Field lights as they thumped Holy Communion 8-0 behind 15 knocks -- including a lead-off bomb from Nino and a two-run triple from T-Dog in the third.
More impressive was the leather work as the Saints made four put-outs in the field while limiting their errors to three. In the first inning 2B Nino took care of business with two assists to Whit at 1B. In the second inning, 2B Harris snagged a ball and made an unassisted putout at the keystone. He should have put the ball in his pocket, but he went for the double-play at 1B and overthrew it. Good thinking, good effort, bad result. That's baseball.
The ball found Brian at the hot corner in the third, and he made a nice stop on one and flubbed a fly ball on the other. But he kept the ball in the infield, and his teammates limited the damage by shutting the door on the opposition after that.
And Sonny put the finishing touches on a fine day in the field with a unassisted putout at 1B in the fourth frame.
Fine glovework all around, which coupled with some heavy lumber made for a very entertaining game for a packed house of Saints fans.
And the lumber was definitely thumping again, starting with Nino's lead-off home run and ending with Harris' screamer down the first base line which the Holy Communion first sacker made a nice play for the unassisted putout.
The Saints hit .556 as team, going 15 for 27 with four extra-base hits (the home run by Nino, the triple by T-Dog and doubles by Owen an Whit).
Owen, Whit and Zach paced the offensive assault again by each going three for three with five runs scored at the top of the order. And while the bottom of the order struggled, they still managed to manufacture a few runs, including a RBI-fielder's choice by Harris in the first.
Saints win! Saints win! Saints win!
